Through collaboration between Telstra, the University of New England and Canon Australia, RMCam™, a remote monitoring solution, has been developed to deliver vision and telemetry services across Telstra’s Next G network.
High Quality, Durable Hardware
The primary hardware device is a wireless and solar powered monitoring camera and telemetry control system. The product is manufactured by RFI, one of Australia’s leading suppliers of solar and wireless technology. Featuring Canon’s leading pan tilt and zoom IP Cameras, RMCam’s vision is coupled with device telemetry and control systems, allowing the user to perform a wide range of remote tasks from wherever they need to be.

The key benefits of the technology are associated with mitigating travel time, personnel expenses and maximising opportunity cost savings associated with staff and capital re-deployment. Intrinsically, the value of “always available” monitoring, switching and control, in remote situations alleviates the uncertainty associated with the deployment of personnel and other resources in these situations.
Web Application – Bullet-Proof Security & No Software Required
The web application provides full access, archived vision and data along with all device settings. This removes the need for localised computer hardware and software on-premises, or at the remote site. The RMCam™ product is linked to a storage area network located within Telstra’s Internet Data Centre (IDC). All data and images are delivered through RMCam’s secure IP Wireless Area Network. Clients can access their information via a corporate VPN or via the public internet behind firewall security as needed. Clients can use functionality in their own applications using the RMCam application program interface (API).
Full Telemetry and PLC Control Functions
The RMController™ comprises an on-board microprocessor, Next G module modem, relays and terminals capable of receiving analogue, digital and serial inputs. The controller supports a full range of peripherals including, weather stations, data loggers, RFID readers, weighing station scales etc. RMCam also replaces PLC control devices and can be incorporated into SCADA control systems for gates, lights, pumping systems, valves, automated switches and other similar devices.
